SPACEBEL Cooperating with the University of Luxembourg to Promote the European Copernicus Programme

Well acquainted with the use of Copernicus data and member of the Copernicus Relays Network, SPACEBEL has been invited, in cooperation with the Competence Centre of the University of Luxembourg, to contribute to the development of two MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) under the leadership of the European Commission.

The aim of those lectures is to stimulate entrepreneurship among future start-ups likely to become providers of Copernicus based services for the private and public sectors. The programme is as follows:

  • Chapter 1: Understanding Copernicus Data and Services
  • Chapter 2: Learning through Success Stories
  • Chapter 3: Do It Yourself!

SPACEBEL has been selected to illustrate the module (7) on Resource Management in Chapter 2 with video presentations based on our success stories: our role in the European NADiRA project on agricultural monitoring in West Africa on the one hand and our forestry monitoring activities on the other hand.

The first MOOC session on April 23rd turned out to be a sheer success. In the end, some 700 participants passed the final exam and were granted the MOOC certification. According to a post-course survey, the overall feedback was very positive. Moreover, of all 12 modules presented, the SPACEBEL module has received the highest rate of satisfaction: 95%!

A second edition is to take place in October with SPACEBEL participation in Webinar 5 on Resource management to be organised on October 15th 2020 at 5:00 PM.
